Trash- for-Cash’ project targets plastic waste

Gather any plastic items– bottles, caps, sachet, and every plastic item and after four weeks exchange them for cash to buy notebooks and other students’ needs. This was how Rep. Maria Angela Garcia of Bataan’s third district explained to her contituents during the launching of “Trash-To-Cashback” project on Friday (August 11).

Garcia said this is one way of keeping plastic waste out of the streets and waterways “and keep our canals clean and plastic-free.” The first representative of newly created 3rd district of Bataan comprising the towns of Dinalupihan, Morong, Bagac and Mariveles conducted a lengthy lecture on environmental care before a group of parents, teachers, principals, barangay officials and civic leaders.

To monitor the strict implementation of the project, Garcia formed a group of people whom she called “eco warriors” who would see to it that household waste are properly segregated. On the issue of nuclear plant as source of energy, the lady solon reiterated her stand that she is not anti-nuke per se, but said the proposal on nuclear energy must be studied “very carefully.” “As of this date, there is no study that tends to point to the cleanest, safest, and lowest cost of energy in our midst,” Garcia said
